What the research says

Older adults report more privacy and independence. A 2024 review in Innovation in Aging looked at 14 separate studies of bidet use by older adults. People were often apprehensive about the technology at first, but those using it described greater privacy and independence in the bathroom. Bowl shape. Measure your toilet from the seat bolts to the front rim. About 18.5 inches is elongated; about 16.5 inches is round. Call us if you're unsure — we'd rather check than have you return something.

An electrical outlet within about three feet of the toilet. Every electric bidet seat needs one. If your bathroom doesn't have one nearby, an electrician can usually add it inexpensively. This is the most common surprise, so check first.

About fifteen minutes, no plumber. Remove your existing toilet seat, attach a mounting plate, connect a T-valve to the water line behind the toilet, plug it in. No cutting, no soldering, no special tools.
