BIDETS FOR SENIORS: COMFORT, CLEANLINESS AND INDEPENDENCE
Going to the bathroom becomes more challenging with age. On average, people use the toilet 5–7 times a day. It's one of the most basic activities of daily living, and it's a common reason older adults begin to lose their independence.
When strength, flexibility, and balance start to go, each trip takes more effort — and needing another person's help in the bathroom is something most people find hard to accept.
A bidet seat replaces your existing toilet seat and cleans with warm water at the press of a button. No reaching, no twisting, no stretching for paper. Most install in about 15 minutes without a plumber.
WHAT THE RESEARCH SHOWS
- A 2024 review in Innovation in Aging examined 14 studies of bidet use by older adults. Users described greater privacy and independence in the bathroom, and caregivers reported spending less time assisting with toileting. Read the review
- A 2021 study in the American Journal of Occupational Therapy found an automated bidet reduced the physical assistance caregivers had to provide for toileting and toilet hygiene. Caregivers said it made helping easier and left them feeling more confident. Read the study
- In rehabilitation research, people recovering from a stroke managed toilet hygiene independently 73% of the time using an automated bidet, and reported feeling more capable than with their previous routine.
- Caregiver movement studies measured reductions of 15% in awkward postures and 32% in severe bending — toileting assistance is among the most physically demanding parts of home caregiving.
WHAT MAKES A BIDET SEAT EASIER TO USE
- The wash does the work — no reaching or twisting
- Warm water on demand, with adjustable temperature and pressure
- A heated seat, adjustable for comfort
- A wireless remote that mounts within easy reach, rather than a side panel you have to turn toward
- Warm air drying, so there's less reaching for paper
- A night light on many models, helpful for nighttime trips
- Less toilet paper to carry, store and buy
We sell bathroom fixtures, not medical devices. A bidet seat can make cleaning easier and more comfortable. We won't tell you it treats or prevents any condition. If you have a specific health concern, please speak with your doctor or occupational therapist — and they're welcome to call us with questions about the equipment itself.
The products below include easy-to-use bidet seats as well as ADA* compliant bidet toilet combinations. Not sure what fits your bathroom? Call (720) 388-1349 and we'll help you work it out.
*ADA compliant refers to a toilet height of at least 17 inches from the floor to the top of the seat.
